How to take a good card photo

A clean, straight photo makes manual centering easier. The outer card edges and printed border should both be visible.

  • Place the card flat.
  • Use a plain background.
  • Shoot straight from above.
  • If the card is tilted, retake the photo or rotate it before measuring.
  • Avoid glare and shadows.

For the most accurate result, avoid anything that hides the true card edge.

  • Avoid sleeves or slabs for best accuracy.
  • Do not crop off the card edges in your original photo.
  • Crop tightly to the outer card edges inside this tool.
  • A tilted or poorly cropped photo can make the estimate less accurate.

Common questions

What are the PSA 10 centering requirements?

PSA's public Gem Mint 10 standard references image centering within a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the reverse. This tool only estimates centering and does not predict a final PSA grade.

Does 55/45 centering mean a PSA 10?

No. Centering is only one part of grading. A card can have strong centering and still receive a lower grade because of other condition issues.

Can this tool measure the back of a card?

Yes. Upload a back photo, crop to the card edges, and drag the lines to the back design or border you want to measure.

Where does the PSA reference come from?

The centering reference is based on PSA's public grading standards. This site is independent and not affiliated with PSA.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The calculator is free to use in your browser, and no signup is required for the MVP.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The card photo is processed locally in your browser for the measurement workflow. Your image stays in your browser.

Does this tool predict my PSA grade?

No. It only estimates centering from manual guide lines. It does not predict a PSA grade, and it does not inspect corners, edges, surface, print defects, or eye appeal.
