How to take a good card photo

A clean, straight photo makes manual centering easier. The outer card edges and printed border should both be visible.

  • Place the card flat.
  • Use a plain background.
  • Shoot straight from above.
  • If the card is tilted, retake the photo or rotate it before measuring.
  • Avoid glare and shadows.

For the most accurate result, avoid anything that hides the true card edge.

  • Avoid sleeves or slabs for best accuracy.
  • Do not crop off the card edges in your original photo.
  • Crop tightly to the outer card edges inside this tool.
  • A tilted or poorly cropped photo can make the estimate less accurate.

PSA centering reference

PSA 10 reference: approximately 55/45 or better on the front, and 75/25 or better on the reverse. Centering is only one part of grading.

This tool is an estimate only. Final grades depend on the grading company and overall card condition. This site is not affiliated with PSA, BGS, CGC, SGC, or TAG.

Common questions

What is a PSA card centering calculator?

It is a tool for estimating how evenly the printed design is centered inside the card edges. This MVP uses manual guide lines instead of AI guesses.

How do I measure card centering?

First crop the image tightly to the outer card edges. Then drag the left, right, top, and bottom guide lines to the printed border or inner frame. The tool calculates the border ratio from those positions.

What centering does PSA 10 allow?

PSA's public Gem Mint 10 standard references image centering within a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the reverse. This tool only estimates centering and does not predict a final PSA grade.

Is centering the only factor in grading?

No. Final grading also depends on the grading company and overall card condition, including corners, edges, surface, print quality, and eye appeal.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The calculator is free to use in your browser, and no signup is required for the MVP.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The card photo is processed locally in your browser for the measurement workflow. Your image stays in your browser.

Does this tool predict my PSA grade?

No. It only estimates centering from manual guide lines. It does not predict a PSA grade, and it does not inspect corners, edges, surface, print defects, or eye appeal.

Why do I need to crop the card first?

Centering compares the printed border to the card's outer edge. Cropping first makes the image edge represent the card edge, which keeps the manual measurement easier on mobile.
