How to take a good card photo

A clean, straight photo makes manual centering easier. The outer card edges and printed border should both be visible.

  • Place the card flat.
  • Use a plain background.
  • Shoot straight from above.
  • If the card is tilted, retake the photo or rotate it before measuring.
  • Avoid glare and shadows.

For the most accurate result, avoid anything that hides the true card edge.

  • Avoid sleeves or slabs for best accuracy.
  • Do not crop off the card edges in your original photo.
  • Crop tightly to the outer card edges inside this tool.
  • A tilted or poorly cropped photo can make the estimate less accurate.

Common questions

Is the card centering calculator free?

Yes. The MVP is free and does not require login. Future feature ideas may be tested separately through the coming soon buttons.

What cards can I use this for?

You can use it for most flat trading card photos, including Pokémon, sports cards, MTG, and Yu-Gi-Oh cards, as long as the outer card edges and printed border are visible.

Can I download the result?

Yes. The result image includes the cropped card photo, guide lines, L/R and T/B ratios, a small watermark, and an estimate-only disclaimer.

What centering does PSA 10 allow?

PSA's public Gem Mint 10 standard references image centering within a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 on the front and 75/25 on the reverse. This tool only estimates centering and does not predict a final PSA grade.

Is centering the only factor in grading?

No. Final grading also depends on the grading company and overall card condition, including corners, edges, surface, print quality, and eye appeal.

Do I need to create an account?

No. The calculator is free to use in your browser, and no signup is required for the MVP.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The card photo is processed locally in your browser for the measurement workflow. Your image stays in your browser.

Does this tool predict my PSA grade?

No. It only estimates centering from manual guide lines. It does not predict a PSA grade, and it does not inspect corners, edges, surface, print defects, or eye appeal.
